Volleyball Recap: El Capitan Comes Up Short

El Capitan was the 3-2 winner over Christian when they last played one another two weeks ago, but their luck changed this time around. The Vaqueros fell just short of the Patriots by a score of 3-2 on Monday.

El Capitan started the match hot and won the first two sets, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The final score came out to 22-25, 24-26, 25-23, 25-20, 15-12.

Jacob Marquez paced El Capitan's offense, picking up 19 kills. Marquez really made an impact as he also led the team in assists with 20. Andy Gerardo-Novelo controlled things from the service line, finishing with three aces.

McKade Mathson had an outrageously good game for Christian as he had 26 digs and two assists. That's the most digs Mathson has posted over his last six contests.

El Capitan dropped their record down to 14-10 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Christian, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 13-11.

El Capitan wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 3-2 win against Santana on the 8th. As for Christian, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 3-0 victory against Hoover on the 10th.
