Baseball Recap: Vanlue Comes Up Short

Vanlue extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 24 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-13 in the process. They lost 10-3 to the Pandora-Gilboa Rockets. If the Wildcats were looking for revenge after losing 18-3 to the Rockets when the teams met back in April of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Toby Reed made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Bryce Wallen also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen bases of the season.

Pandora-Gilboa's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-15. Their hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.

On Pandora-Gilboa's side, Nolan Leatherman made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out 15 batters over 6.2 innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off two hits. Those 15 strikeouts gave Leatherman a new career-high. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.

In other batting news, G Kempf was excellent, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and one RBI.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Vanlue will square off against Buckeye Central at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Bucks' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Wildcats' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Pandora-Gilboa, they will face off against Fort Jennings at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Rockets' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Musketeers have averaged an impressive 8.9 runs per game this season.
