Baseball Recap: Green River Comes Up Short

Green River had lost eight straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped down to 2-12 to make it nine. They lost 10-0 to the Wayne Badgers. The Pirates were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Badgers earlier this season, when they won 3-2.

As for Wayne, they moved to 4-12 with that win, which also ended their nine-game losing streak. The high-scoring effort was just what they needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

For Wayne's part, Hunter Robins made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Robins is becoming a predictor of Wayne's success: when he allows at most one hit the team is 2-1 (and 2-11 when he doesn't). Robins was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Blake Peterson, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in August. EJ Pauu was another key player, getting on base in two of his three plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Green River will challenge Piute at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Pirates' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Thunderbirds have averaged an impressive 8.1 runs per game this season. As for Wayne, they will welcome Valley at 3:00 p.m. on Friday. The Buffalos' pitching crew has only allowed 2.5 runs per game this season, so the Badgers' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
