Baseball Recap: Albuquerque Takes a Loss

Albuquerque extended their losing streak to four on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 5-18 in the process. They came up short against the Rio Grande Ravens, falling 15-3. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Ravens this season, with their most recent loss being a 7-6 defeat on April 4th.

Albuquerque saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Roman Viscarra, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI. Abran Vigil was another, going 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

As for Rio Grande, the victory (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 13-9. Considering they have won eight contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

On Rio Grande's side, Sebastian Chavez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Chavez was also solid in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs. He has become a key player for Rio Grande: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 7-9 otherwise.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Andrew Salas, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one triple. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Lorenzo Martinez, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.

Coincidentally, Albuquerque and Rio Grande will both be playing Los Lunas the next time they take the field. The Ravens will host the Tigers at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, while the Bulldogs will head out to face them at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
