Softball Recap: Suwannee Comes Up Short

Suwannee was the 5-2 winner over Gainesville when they last played one another back in February, but their luck changed this time around. Suwannee fell 5-1 to Gainesville on Friday.

Gracie Watley spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered five earned runs on eight hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Suwannee saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Kynadee Lin Lee, who scored a run while going 1-for-1. Addison Payne also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

Suwannee has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 6-8 record this season. Gainesville pushed their record up to 7-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Suwannee will host Madison County at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Madison County's pitching crew has only allowed 2.9 runs per game this season, so Suwannee's hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Gainesville, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Williston at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Gainesville's pitchers better be ready for this one: Williston has averaged an impressive 8.3 runs per game this season.
