Newton has gone a perfect 9-0 against Marshall recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Monday. The Eagles will take on the Lions at 4:30 p.m. Newton is coming into the contest hot, having won their last five games.
If Newton beats Marshall with eight runs on Monday, it's going to be the squad's new lucky number: they've won their past two matches with that exact score. The Eagles blew past Mt. Carmel 8-0 on Thursday.
Not much got past Drake Wolf, who gave up just six hits to keep Mt. Carmel off the board. Wolf has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Quincy Fulton, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Newton's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 5-9 when he doesn't). Reed Tharp also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Newton kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They are a perfect 3-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, Marshall unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of South Vermillion by a score of 18-17. On the bright side, the 17- run effort marked the Lions' highest-scoring game to date.
Marshall got a massive performance out of Rylan Ramey, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Garrett Pugh, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base.
Marshall's loss dropped their record down to 6-3. As for Newton, the win got them back to even at 9-9.
Newton took their victory against Marshall in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Eagles since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
