The Northville Falcons will venture away from home to challenge the Mayfield Panthers at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.
On Saturday, Northville came up short against Warrensburg and fell 4-1.
Northville saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Connor Dickinson, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Mayfield, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victors by an 11-4 margin over Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons on Saturday. The win was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their five-game losing streak.
Carter Goodemote and Landon Conyne were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Goodemote pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Conyne tossed three innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he posted three strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April. At bat, Goodemote went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double, while Conyne went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That double marked the first that Goodemote has hit this season.
In other batting news, Aiden Horn (C) and Cubby Roth (C) did most of the damage at the plate: Horn (C) went a perfect 3-for-3 with seven stolen bases, two RBI, and one run, while Roth (C) got on base in three of his four plate appearances with five stolen bases, four runs, and one triple. Those two RBI gave Horn (C) a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Grady Shea, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
The victory was their first at home , bumping their record up to 2-11. As for Northville, they dropped their record down to 1-10 with the defeat, which was their sixth straight at home.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Sunday as neither team is afraid to steal. Northville has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3.9 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Mayfield struggles in that department as they've been averaging 6.1 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Northville might still be hurting after the 7-0 loss they got from Mayfield in their previous meeting back in May of 2022. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
