Volleyball Recap: Leigh Takes a Loss

If Leigh was feeling good fresh off their 3-0 takedown of Del Mar on Thursday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Longhorns fell 3-1 to the Valley Christian Warriors on Monday.

Leigh started the match hot and won the first set, but they struggled down the stretch and lost the last three. The match finished with set scores of 25-27, 25-16, 25-16, 25-17.

Cooper Smith paced Leigh's offense, picking up 12 kills. Smith got some help from Eric Wu and his 24 assists. Wu also made an impact serving: he shared the team lead in aces with Eric Brehmer, racking up three apiece.

Leigh's loss dropped their record down to 18-8. As for Valley Christian, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a massive bump to their 12-11 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Leigh will take on Independence at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. As for Valley Christian, they will square off against Archbishop Mitty at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Monarchs will roll in looking for their eighth straight victory, something the Warriors surely won't give up without a fight.
