Football Recap: Moorpark Starts Season with Victory Against Rio Mesa + How To Watch

Moorpark had to kick off their season on the road on Friday, but they showed no ill effects. They blew past the Rio Mesa Spartans 44-13. The match was all but wrapped up at the end of the third, by which point the Musketeers had established a 23-point advantage.

Special teams played a big role in the game for Moorpark, adding 14 points to the final score. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Davis Benson, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.

Defeat or not, Rio Mesa got some senior leadership from Nate Warren-Lewis and Alec Fontyn. Warren-Lewis picked up 109 receiving yards and two TDs, while Fontyn threw for 141 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Warren-Lewis showed off some serious burst, connecting on a big catch for 64 yards.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Moorpark will challenge Centennial at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Rio Mesa, they are headed away from home for the first time to square off against Camarillo at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
