Basketball Recap: Freeport Takes a Loss

On Friday, the Freeport Bulldogs came up short against the West Florida Baptist Academy Conquerors and fell 52-42. While losing is never fun, the Bulldogs can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 321st, while the Conquerors are ranked 84th).

Despite the loss, Freeport saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Olyvia Snodgrass posted 21 points. Those 21 points set a new season-high mark for Snodgrass.

Even though they lost, Freeport smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 16 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive boards in nine consecutive contests.

West Florida Baptist Academy was led to victory by Olivia Pearce and Bryse Burkett. Pearce dropped a double-double on 20 points and 19 boards, while Burkett had 19 points and four steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Burkett has scored at least a third of West Florida Baptist Academy's points. Another player making a difference was Stella Moore, who put up three points.

Freeport has traveled a rocky road recently having lost five of their last six matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 9-1.

Freeport didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 56-35 defeat against Central on the 14th. As for West Florida Baptist Academy, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 68-28 win against Florala on the 14th.
