Baseball Recap: Downey Takes a Loss

Downey was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 7-6 heartbreaker at the hands of the Gahr Gladiators. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Gladiators this season, with their most recent defeat being a 3-1 loss last Wednesday.

Eddie Causley and Nathan Carrasco did some serious damage despite the final result: Causley scored a run while going 3-for-3, while Carrasco scored a run while going 3-for-3. Roel Mercedes was another key player, scoring a run while getting on base in two of his three plate appearances.

Downey's record now sits at 12-10. As for Gahr, they are on a roll lately: they've won nine of their last ten matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-7 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Downey will have a little extra prep time after the defeat as they won't be playing again for a while. They'll take on El Rancho at 3:15 p.m. on the 23rd. As for Gahr, they will challenge La Mirada at 3:15 p.m. on Tuesday. The Matadores' pitching crew has only allowed 2.8 runs per game this season, so the Gladiators' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
