Otter Valley faced Hartford in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Otters came out on top in a nail-biter against the Hurricanes, sneaking past 7-6. Winning may never get old, but the Otters sure are getting used to it with their sixth in a row.
Sophie Parker made a splash while hitting and pitching. She struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and two unearned) runs off eight hits. Those 12 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one double. She has been hot recently, having posted two or more stolen bases the last four times she's played.
Parker wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Michelle Hendee, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one run. Hendee is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played.
Otter Valley's win bumped their record up to 11-3. As for Hartford, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 7-3.
Coincidentally, Otter Valley and Hartford will both be playing Fair Haven the next time they take the field. The Otters will head out to face the Slaters at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Hurricanes will head out to face them at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
