Softball Recap: Middletown Takes a Loss

Middletown dropped their record down to 8-4 on Monday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins on the road. They came up short against the Trinity Shamrocks, falling 11-2. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Blue Raiders of the 10-5 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

Delaney Fitzpatrick stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she went 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Meghan O'Brien, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and two runs.

As for Trinity, the win (which was their ninth in a row) raised their record to 11-2. The result was nothing new for the Shamrocks, who have now won ten contests by six runs or more so far this season.

On Trinity's side, Landry Murray spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits and racked up nine Ks. Murray has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Trinity got a massive performance out of Ana Ness, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave Ness a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Anna Sheaffer, who got on base in four of her five plate appearances with five RBI, two doubles, and one run.

The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Middletown beat Trinity by a score of 16-6 later that day.
