Softball Recap: River Ridge/Scales Mound's Luck Takes a Turn for the Worse on Monday

It was a good run, but River Ridge/Scales Mound unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 10-6 to the Eastland Cougars. The Wildcats were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Cougars earlier this season, when they won 6-1.

Elizabeth Rife was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and nine unearned) runs off six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 18 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with one run.

In other batting news, Ella Dittmar was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-5 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

River Ridge/Scales Mound's loss dropped their record down to 12-15. As for Eastland, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 10-11.

River Ridge/Scales Mound does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Eastland, they will square off against Galena at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The Pirates' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Cougars' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
