Baseball Recap: Powell County Wins Going Away Against Bath County

Powell County barely beat Bath County the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Pirates were the clear victors by a 14-5 margin over the Wildcats on Thursday. The Pirates haven't had any issues with the Wildcats recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.

Kane Knox spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits.

On the hitting side, Carter Poe was a standout: he went 3-for-5 with three RBI, two runs, and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Powell County's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 4-1 (and 9-15 when he doesn't). Dylan Carter was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Powell County kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 17 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

Powell County's record is now 13-16. As for Bath County, their loss was their fourth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 16-17-1.

Looking ahead, Powell County will be playing at home against Lee County at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Pirates are facing the Bobcats at the right time seeing as the Bobcats are stuck on an eight-game losing streak. As for Bath County, they will head out to take on Owsley County at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
