Baseball Recap: Monday's Win Is King/Drew's 12th in Last 14 Outings

King/Drew came out on top against Harbor Teacher on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive five-run first inning. The Golden Eagles walked away with an 8-4 win over the Monarchs. That's the second time they've managed to beat them this season, as they also won 11-7 back in April.

Danilo Meade and Hades Carranza were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Meade struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Carranza tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meade has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't tossed less than seven strikeouts in five consecutive appearances. At the plate, Meade went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run, while Carranza went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.

They weren't the only ones making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Angel Chavez, who went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBI. Another was Elijah Lugo, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

King/Drew is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 14 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 15-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Harbor Teacher, the loss snapped their winning streak at three games and leaves them with a 10-7 record.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. King/Drew will challenge rival Fremont at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Golden Eagles 3.3, the Pathfinders 4.1) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Harbor Teacher is set to square off against their familiar foe Locke at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
