Basketball Recap: Westerville Central Has No Trouble Against Watkins Memorial

Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Westerville Central walked away with it. They were the clear victor by a 45-23 margin over the Watkins Memorial Warriors on Saturday. Given the Warhawks' advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 171st, while the Warriors are ranked 499th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Several Warriors players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Kamryn Caldwell, who posted nine points and three steals. Another player making a difference was Casey Wheeler, who earned six points and five rebounds.

Westerville Central has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matches, which provided a nice bump to their 14-9 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 53.0 points over those games. As for Watkins Memorial, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 7-16.

Coming up, Westerville Central will square off against Bishop Watterson at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Watkins Memorial does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
