Volleyball Recap: Merrill Find Success

It was a Battle of the Birds when Merrill faced off against Northland Pines on Saturday. The Bluejays came out on top in a nail-biter against the Eagles, sneaking past 3-2. The win continues a trend for the Bluejays in their matchups with the Eagles: they've now won six in a row.

Merrill wouldn't go down easily and took Northland Pines into a fifth set where they got it done with a five-point win. The final score came out to 22-25, 25-21, 25-18, 23-25, 15-10.

Miley Krueger was nothing short of spectacular: she had 21 digs and one assist. Those 21 digs gave her a new career-high.

Merrill was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 13 aces. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now served at least 13 aces in three consecutive matches.

Eden Smith and Brianna Sullivan certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Smith had 25 digs and one assist, while Sullivan had 14 assists and eight digs. Smith is on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 15 or more in each of the last four games she's played.

Merrill's victory bumped their record up to 15-13. As for Northland Pines, with the defeat, they broke their three-match winning streak and moved their record to 18-12.

Merrill wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 3-0 loss against Mosinee on the 11th. As for Northland Pines, they have also already played their next contest, a 3-0 win against Rhinelander on the 11th.
