Basketball Recap: Thanasi Papazis' Big Game Can't Quite Lead Sun Valley over Porter Ridge

Sun Valley was the 71-67 winner over Porter Ridge when they last played one another last Friday, but their luck changed this time around. The Sun Valley Spartans took a 57-53 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Porter Ridge Pirates.

Sun Valley's loss came despite a true team effort with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Thanasi Papazis, who dropped a double-double with 15 points and 11 rebounds. The dominant performance gave Papazis a new career-high in boards. Cj Brockington was another key player, putting up 11 points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Sun Valley smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 15 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive boards in six consecutive matches.

Sun Valley has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 8-16 record this season. Porter Ridge's win ended an 11-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-19.

Sun Valley does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Porter Ridge, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 67-52 defeat against Weddington on the 18th.
