Baseball Game Preview: Desert View Jaguars vs. Empire Ravens

The Desert View Jaguars will face off against the Empire Ravens at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.

Empire will take on a team with plenty of momentum: Desert View extended their winning streak to four on Tuesday. The Jaguars put the hurt on Flowing Wells with a sharp 13-3 victory.

Cristobal Lorta and Orlando Pinedo did most of the damage at the plate: Lorta scored two runs while going 2-for-2, while Pinedo went 1-for-3 with four RBI and one run. Another player making a difference was Mark Hollonbeck, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Empire never let their opponents score on Friday. They were the clear victors by a 10-0 margin over Willcox. With that win, the Ravens brought their scoring average up to 6.1 runs per game.

Not much got past Chance Bird, who gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks to keep Willcox off the board. Bird has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Micah Tiggas was excellent, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2. The team also got some help courtesy of Brady Carey, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.

Desert View's victory was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 11-4. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Empire, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 7-9 record this season.
