Baseball Preview: University Prep Panthers vs. Winters Warriors

University Prep hasn't had much luck against Winters recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Panthers will square off against the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as University Prep comes in on five and Winters on three.

University Prep is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They won by a run and slipped past Durham 9-8.

For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Winters and East Nicolaus meet (two straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Tuesday. The Warriors came out on top against the Spartans by a score of 8-5. That's two games straight that the Warriors have won by exactly three runs.

Jordan Calvert was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched 3.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Winters is undefeated when Calvert allows one or fewer hits, but 12-13 otherwise. Calvert was also big at the plate, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with two runs.

In other batting news, Cole Jordling was a standout: he went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. Another player making a difference was Jake Woods, who went 2-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

University Prep's victory bumped their record up to 13-14-1. As for Winters, their win bumped their record up to 17-13.
