Somersworth faced Souhegan in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Monday. The Toppers put the hurt on the Sabers with a sharp 3-0 win. The Toppers haven't had any issues with the Sabers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Somersworth never let Souhegan on the board, but things got pretty close in the second set. The final score came out to 25-14, 25-23, 25-16.

Emily Runions paced Somersworth's offense, picking up nine kills. Runions got some help from Kylie Pettengill and her 20 assists. Finally, Paige Demers kept Somersworth's defense grounded, leading the team with two blocks.

Somersworth's win bumped their record up to 14-2. As for Souhegan, their loss ended a ten-match streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 10-5.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Somersworth will take on rival Prospect Mountain at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Souhegan is set to challenge their familiar foe Milford at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
