Football Game Preview: Mariner Tritons vs. Ida Baker Bulldogs

The Mariner Tritons are taking a road trip to square off against the Ida Baker Bulldogs at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (Mariner 2.2, Ida Baker 12.3) so any points scored will be well earned.

Mariner's offense might be in the hot seat on Friday considering what happened against North Fort Myers on Wednesday. They took a 7-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Red Knights. The Tritons haven't had much luck with the Red Knights recently, as the team has come up short the last three times they've met.

Meanwhile, while Ida Baker put up some points on Monday, the same can't be said for Cypress Lake. The Bulldogs secured a 6-0 W over the Panthers. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Bulldogs.

Ida Baker's win was their ninth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-3. Those road victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 6.9 points on average over those games. As for Mariner, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 4-2.

Mariner and Ida Baker were neck-and-neck in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, but Mariner came up empty-handed after a 13-12 defeat. Can the Tritons avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
