Basketball Recap: Pearsall Mavericks vs. Floresville Tigers/Jaguars
Pearsall was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight loss. They were four points away from ending the streak, but they lost a 58-54 heartbreaker at the hands of the Floresville Tigers/Jaguars. The Mavericks were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Tigers/Jaguars earlier this season, when they won 56-55.
Xavier Rendon and Aiden Saldivar certainly did their best on Tuesday to avoid the loss. Rendon went 7-for-14 on his way to 18 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals, while Saldivar posted 11 points along with five boards and four steals. That's the most steals Saldivar has posted since back in December of 2024. Jarren Cabasos also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first boards of the season.
Leading Floresville to victory were Samuel Rodriguez and LaDamian Evans. Rodriguez put up 17 points, while Evans earned 15 points. Rodriguez has been hot recently, having posted 17 or more points the last four times he's played. Another player making a difference was Roy Marroquin, who scored nine points.
Pearsall's defeat dropped their record down to 23-10. As for Floresville, they pushed their record up to 15-17 with the win, which was their third straight on the road.
Pearsall wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next matchup, a 62-40 victory against Gonzales on the 18th. As for Floresville, they have also already played their next contest, a 51-48 win against La Vernia on the 18th.
