Softball Game Preview: Palma Chieftains vs. Pacific Grove Breakers

The Palma Chieftains will face off against the Pacific Grove Breakers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Given that the two teams suffered a loss in their last games, they both have a little extra motivation heading into this game.

On Thursday, Palma came up short against Hollister and fell 8-4. The defeat continues a trend for the Chieftains in their meetings with the Haybalers: they've now lost three in a row.

Mulan Hunkin made the most of her time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI and one double. Another player making a difference was Analysia Rocha, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one triple.

Meanwhile, while it was Pacific Grove who put the first runs on the board on Thursday, it was Watsonville who put up more. The Breakers fell just short of the Wildcatz by a score of 5-4. That's two games in a row now that the Breakers have lost by just one run.

Lyvia Maciel was huge while hitting and pitching even without the win. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up four earned (and one unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.

Maciel wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Isis Turner, who went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI. Destiny Buckles was another, going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.

Pacific Grove's loss dropped their record down to 5-8. As for Palma, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-6.
