Baseball Game Preview: Delaware Valley Warriors vs. Wallenpaupack Area Buckhorns

For the second straight game, Delaware Valley will face off against Wallenpaupack Area. The Warriors will host the Buckhorns at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Delaware Valley has four straight wins, Wallenpaupack Area has three straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.

Delaware Valley proved they can win big on Monday (they won by ten) and on Wednesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Wallenpaupack Area 7-6.

For Wallenpaupack Area's part, Mark Nilsen was huge no matter where he played even without the win. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run over 5.2 innings pitched. Nilsen has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base. He is becoming a predictor of Wallenpaupack Area's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 2-1 (and 2-9 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, Peyton Toth was cooking despite his team's loss, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with two runs and one RBI.

Delaware Valley pushed their record up to 5-6 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of 1.67 runs across that stretch. As for Wallenpaupack Area, their loss dropped their record down to 4-10.
