Basketball Preview: New Iberia Yellowjackets vs. Westgate Tigers
The New Iberia Yellowjackets just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Westgate Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on February 3rd. Westgate took a loss in their last game and will be looking to turn the tables on New Iberia, who comes in off a win.
New Iberia put the finishing touches on their eighth blowout victory of the season on Friday. They put the hurt on Sulphur with a sharp 50-26 win. Given New Iberia's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 12th, while the Golden Tors are ranked 130th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Westgate suffered a rough 53-31 loss at the hands of the Bulldogs on Tuesday.
New Iberia is on a roll lately: they've won 12 of their last 13 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 22-4 record this season. As for Westgate, their loss was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 3-13.
New Iberia strolled past the Tigers when the teams last played back in January by a score of 54-39. The rematch might be a little tougher for New Iberia since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
