Softball Recap: Fitchburg Comes Up Short

After flying high against Algonquin Regional on Monday, Fitchburg came back down to earth. The Blue Raiders fell just short of the Shepherd Hill Regional Rams by a score of 5-4 on Tuesday. The Blue Raiders have struggled against the Rams recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive lost meeting.

Fitchburg saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ina Soini, who went 1-for-3 with one run and one RBI.

Fitchburg's defeat dropped their record down to 6-9. As for Shepherd Hill Regional, they are on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-2 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Fitchburg will venture away from home to face off against Groton-Dunstable at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The Blue Raiders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Crusaders have averaged an impressive 6.2 runs per game this season. As for Shepherd Hill Regional, they will head out to take on North Middlesex Regional at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday.
