Football Recap: Grove City Greyhounds vs. Lincoln Lions
Grove City extended their losing streak to three on Friday, dropping them down to 4-5. They lost 44-20 to the Lincoln Lions. While losing is never fun, the Greyhounds can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 112th, while the Lions are ranked 21st).
Several Greyhounds players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Owen Steele, who picked up 182 receiving yards and two TDs. Steele's longest reception was for an incredible 80 yards. The team also got some help courtesy of Carson Welsh, who threw for 210 yards and a pair of touchdowns.
As for Lincoln, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 7-2. Their offense stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most points they've scored all season.
This one was won in the trenches and the lion's share of the credit has to go to Leon Cummings and Trey Wilson. Cummings rushed for 146 yards and one score on only 13 carries while Wilson rushed for 126 yards and one TD on only eight carries. Cummings didn't just play on offense: he also forced one fumble and made three total tackles. Jayden Elston also helped with two touchdowns in total.
We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Grove City is set to take on their familiar foe Central Crossing at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Meanwhile, Lincoln will face off against rival Pickerington North at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 900 yards in their previous games.
