Basketball Recap: Union Academy Takes a Loss + How To Watch

It was a proper cat-fight when Union Academy faced off against Piedmont on Tuesday. The Cardinals came up short against the Panthers, falling 65-41. The Cardinals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Panthers apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in December of 2024.

Despite the defeat, Union Academy saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Laney Hildreth posted 16 points. Amy Thomas was another key player, putting up nine points.

Piedmont's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Charleigh Battle, who had 14 points along with eight boards and four steals. Those eight rebounds gave Battle a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Emily Lundquist, who earned eight points and seven steals.

Union Academy's loss dropped their record down to 2-4. As for Piedmont, the win keeps them at an undefeated 5-0.

Union Academy didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 42-35 defeat against Hickory Grove Christian on the 4th. As for Piedmont, they have also already played their next contest, a 52-39 loss against Providence on the 4th.
