You can't lose the game if you win every quarter, and that was precisely Downingtown West's strategy against Great Valley on Friday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that the Whippets blew the Patriots out of the water with a 38-6 final score. The final result isn't all that surprising considering the Whippets' considerable advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania football rankings (they are ranked 37th, while the Patriots are ranked 262nd).

When it comes to explaining why Great Valley lost, don't look at Sonny Baldino. Despite the final result, he picked up 99 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Downingtown West pushed their record up to 5-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 8.3 points on average over those games. As for Great Valley, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-5 record this season.

Downingtown West will challenge Bishop Shanahan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams have allowed few points on average (the Whippets 14, the Eagles 12.9) so any points scored will be well earned. As for Great Valley, they will square off against Bayard Rustin at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Golden Knights' defense has only allowed 13.6 points per game this season, so the Patriots' offense will have their work cut out for them.
