Basketball Recap: Jaxen Mccuistion Leads a Balanced Attack to Beat Mesquite

Timpanogos's tournament run continued when they took on Mesquite on Thursday. The Timpanogos Timberwolves enjoyed a cozy 54-39 victory over the Mesquite Wildcats. Given the Timberwolves' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 15th in Utah, while the Wildcats are ranked 78th in Arizona), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Timpanogos to victory, but perhaps none more so than Jaxen Mccuistion, who posted 12 points and five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Gavin Messmer, who earned six points along with seven boards and five assists.

Timpanogos smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in five consecutive matchups.

Timpanogos' win bumped their record up to 10-1. As for Mesquite, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-6.

Timpanogos and Orange Lutheran will face off at 3:00 p.m. on Friday without much rest having both just played. As for Mesquite, they will head out to face off against Saguaro at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Saguaro knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past five contests -- so hopefully Mesquite likes a good challenge.
