Softball Game Preview: Newark Memorial Cougars vs. Dougherty Valley Wildcats

The Newark Memorial Cougars will face off against the Dougherty Valley Wildcats at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

After dropping their season opener at home, Dougherty Valley is headed out to face a Cougars team ready to give their home crowd a win. Newark Memorial fell 7-2 to Foothill on Wednesday. The loss continues a trend for the Cougars in their matchups with the Falcons: they've now lost four in a row.

Newark Memorial saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Mahlyah Sao, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, while Dougherty Valley put up plenty of runs on Thursday, the same can't be said for Campolindo. Dougherty Valley blew past Campolindo 17-0. The Wildcats haven't had any issues with the Cougars recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

Katie Osborn made a splash while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over four innings pitched. Osborn was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

In other batting news, Sydney Henry was incredible, going 3-for-4 with six RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those six RBI gave her a new career-high. Kaitlyn Lohe was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.

Dougherty Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Campolindo only posted an OBP of .167.

Newark Memorial suffered a grim 9-3 defeat to Dougherty Valley in their previous meeting back in March of 2024. Can Newark Memorial avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
