Softball Recap: Continental Falls Short of Antwerp in the Playoffs

It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact Continental can now relate to. They fell just short of the Antwerp Archers by a score of 3-2 on Friday. The Pirates' defeat signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.

Gracie Homier spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 11 consecutive appearances.

At the plate, Continental saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Ava Homier, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base and one run. Homier has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.

Continental's loss dropped their record down to 15-8. As for Antwerp, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-13 record this season.

Continental does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Antwerp, they will challenge Ayersville at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. The Pilots will roll in looking for their 16th straight victory, something the Archers surely won't give up without a fight.
