High school football: No. 6 Duncanville at No. 13 DeSoto headlines MaxPreps Top 10 Games of the Week

North Shore faces Atascocita, Southlake Carroll takes on Byron Nelson in other Texas matchups featured this week.

The biggest high school football game in Texas takes place on Friday as No. 6 Duncanville faces No. 13 DeSoto in a matchup of undefeated teams. 

Duncanville, winners of five in a row in the series, is riding a 22-game win streak dating back to last year and are allowing 3.7 points per game this season. DeSoto is in the midst of a 14-game run of success and is averaging over 50 points per game.

Another big Texas showdown features No. 7 North Shore (Houston) hosting Atascocita (Humble). Both are 8-0 and the Mustangs have won 23 of their last 24, with the only loss coming against Duncanville in last year's Class 6A Division 1 state championship game. The Eagles have lost six straight meetings against North Shore and are looking for their first series win since 2017.

The playoffs get underway in Indiana with a huge first-round matchup between Brownsburg at Ben Davis (Indianapolis). The Bulldogs are 9-0 and winning by an average margin of 21 points per game. The Giants' only loss came against No. 4 IMG Academy (Bradenton, Fla.).



Georgia has two weeks left in the regular season and the AAAAAA Region 1 title is up for grabs as Thomas County Central (Thomasville) hosts Lee County (Leesburg). The Yellow Jackets have won every game by double digits. The Trojans' only loss came against No. 12 Colquitt County (Moultrie).

California wraps up regular season action and No. 3 St. John Bosco (Bellflower) looks to close out Trinity League play undefeated with a road matchup against Orange Lutheran (Orange). The Braves have outscored their first four league opponents 168-54.

This will be one of the biggest games of the year between two defending state champs. The Panthers won the 6A Division 1 title while the Eagles took home the 6A Division 2 crown. DeSoto is looking to knock off Duncanville for the first time since 2016. The Panthers have won the last five meetings by an average margin of 20.2 points per game.

Atascocita is fresh off a 28-21 overtime win over King (Houston) after Conley's game-winning interception. North Shore has won every game by at least 10 points but was in a tight one against Summer Creek (Houston) three weeks ago. The game was tied 21-21 in the fourth quarter until the Mustangs scored the final 10 points in the last five minutes. This will be the 10th meeting since 2016 and North Shore has won seven of the previous nine.

Center Grove (Greenwood) is the only team in the state ranked higher than both of these schools. Ben Davis checks in at No. 64 in our expanded top 100, while Brownsburg is two spots below at No. 66. These two met in the opening round of last year's 6A bracket and the Bulldogs rolled to a 48-20 win. This will be the 11th meeting between the two since 2007 and the series it tied 5-5.

Expect both teams to be heavily in the mix to win the AAAAAA state title. Lee County has won four in a row since a 37-20 loss against No. 12 Colquitt County (Moultrie). They are averaging 50.3 points per game during their win streak. The Yellow Jackets closest game was a 27-0 win over Houston County (Warner Robins) last week. They are winning by an average margin of 39.4 points per game.

The Braves have dominated after a 30-23 loss at No. 8 Kahuku (Hawaii). They had the most impressive win of the season handing Mater Dei (Santa Ana) its first shutout loss in 12 years with a 28-0 win two weeks ago. St. John Bosco is one win away from its first outright Trinity League title since 2018. Orange Lutheran is one of the most battle-tested teams in the country and every opponent they have played has been ranked in our expanded top 100 at one time or another. The Lancers are looking to beat the Braves for the first time since 2010. St. John Bosco has won 13 straight meetings.

This will be the eighth meeting since 2016 and Southlake Carroll has won the previous seven.

Santa Margarita is coming off a 50-42 loss against Servite (Anaheim) and is 1-3 in Trinity League action. It has been 10 years since the Eagles took down the Monarchs. Mater Dei has won nine consecutive meetings with the last eight coming by double digits.

The second Peach State matchup featured will decide the AAAAAAA Region 1 title. The Packers have been ranked in the MaxPreps Top 25 all season and are winning by an average margin of 24.2 points per game. Carr and Thomas make for one of the most dynamic duos in the country and have combined for nearly 1,300 yards receiving and 22 total touchdowns. The Wildcats have won their first three region games and are looking to beat Colquitt County for the first time since 2019. They have lost three in a row against the Packers.

Good Counsel has won six in a row since a season-opening loss against No. 24 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio). The Falcons are inching closer to re-joining the MaxPreps Top 25 and currently sit at No. 32 in our expanded top 100. They have posted back-to-back wins against WCAC rivals, St. John's (Washington, D.C.) and DeMatha (Hyattsville, Md.). The Eagles have bounced back this season after two straight years finishing under .500. The Falcons have won two straight meetings and five of the last six.

Delbarton checks in at No. 2 in our state rankings and its only loss came against Malvern Prep (Malvern, Pa.). The Green Knights only in-state loss was a 28-23 defeat against Bergen Catholic. They are the only team from New Jersey that kept it within one score against the Crusaders. St. Joseph Regional has dominated the series and are 9-0 against the Green Wave since 2005.
