Softball Game Preview: Mount de Sales Academy Sailors vs. McDonogh Eagles

The Mount de Sales Academy Sailors will head out to face off against the McDonogh Eagles at 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Mount de Sales Academy is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.5 runs per game this season.

On Monday, Mount de Sales Academy earned a 7-4 win over Howard. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Sailors.

Reese Barchanowicz spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four runs (all of which were unearned) on seven hits.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Olivia Ross, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (three). Another player making a difference was Vanessa Gilman, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases and three RBI.

Meanwhile, there's no place like home for McDonogh, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against John Carroll on Thursday, sneaking past 6-4.

McDonogh's first victory this season bumped their record up to 1-3. As for Mount de Sales Academy, their record is now 9-5.

Mount de Sales Academy was able to grind out a solid win over McDonogh when the teams last played back in March, winning 6-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Sailors since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
