Softball Recap: Larned Indians vs. Halstead Dragons
Larned had lost three straight on the road, but on Thursday they dropped their record down to 8-9 to make it four. They lost 10-0 to the Halstead Dragons. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Indians of the 13-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.
As for Halstead, the win keeps they at an undefeated 15-0. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 10.9 runs this season.
For Halstead's part, Kaci Young made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out ten over five innings pitched. Young has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Thea Boese was excellent, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That stolen base was her first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Daynica Euwer, who got on base in all three of her plate appearances with two runs.
The teams didn't have to wait long for a rematch: Halstead beat Larned by a score of 7-2 later that day.
