Volleyball Game Preview: Timpanogos Timberwolves vs. Payson Lions

The Timpanogos Timberwolves are taking a road trip to challenge the Payson Lions at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Timpanogos is coming into the contest on a five-game losing streak.

Timpanogos is coming in fresh off a high-stakes matchup with another one of Utah's top teams: Mountain View, who was ranked 25th at the time (Timpanogos was ranked 14th). Timpanogos came up short against Mountain View on Tuesday, falling 3-0.

While Timpanogos was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. The match finished with set scores of 25-21, 26-24, 25-21.

The losing side was boosted by Zaxen Downey, who had 23 assists and four digs. Downey is crushing it when it comes to assists: he's posted at least 12 every time he's taken the court this season.

Meanwhile, it was a proper cat-fight when Payson took on Orem on Tuesday. Payson fell 3-1 to Orem. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

The final score came out to 25-11, 19-25, 25-10, 25-20.

Payson's loss dropped their record down to 13-3. As for Timpanogos, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-6.

Timpanogos skirted past Payson 3-2 when the teams last played back in May of 2024. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was Payson's Jace Mangum, who had 41 assists and 13 digs.
