The Roosevelt Roughriders will take on the Severance Silver Knights at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. Roosevelt will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Roosevelt gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They put the hurt on Wellington with a sharp 13-1 victory. The Roughriders might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven games by six runs or more this season.
Stevie Kreimer was a standout: he scored a run and stole a base while going 3-for-3. Luke Unruh was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Roosevelt was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .429. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .429 or higher in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Severance scored the most runs they've had this season on Tuesday, but it wasn't enough. They took a 19-16 hit to the loss column at the hands of Timnath. The Silver Knights' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Domanick Estrella-Torres made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and two runs. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kolton Beidleman, who scored four runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5.
Roosevelt pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Severance, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-5.
Saturday's contest might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Roosevelt has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .538. However, it's not like Severance struggles in that department as they've averaged .453. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Roosevelt might still be hurting after the 20-3 loss they got from Severance when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Roughriders avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
