Softball Recap: Colman-Egan C-E Hawks vs. Castlewood Warriors

Colman-Egan lost against Castlewood back in May of 2023, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. The Colman-Egan C-E Hawks took a 9-6 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Castlewood Warriors.

Lanie Mousel spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and seven unearned) runs on six hits.

At the plate, Savanna Schmidt made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run while going 2-for-4. Kaitlyn Taggart was another key contributor, scoring a run while going 2-for-4.

On Castlewood's side, Claire Horn made a big impact no matter where she played. She struck out ten batters over seven innings while giving up six earned runs off 11 hits (and only one walk). Horn has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts every time she's pitched this season. Horn was also big at the plate, going 1-for-1 with a stolen base, two RBI, and a double.

In other batting news, Gracie Haug was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Kayla Goens, who went 1-for-2 with two runs, a triple, and an RBI.

Colman-Egan has been struggling recently as they've lost six of their last seven matches, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for Castlewood, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.
