Basketball Recap: Maret Falls Short Against Ranked Sidwell Friends

On Monday, Maret faced Sidwell Friends in a battle between two of the state's top teams. The Maret Frogs came up short against the Sidwell Friends Quakers, falling 68-46. The Frogs were probably out for revenge after losing 65-50 to them when the teams met back in February of 2024, then they'll just have to keep looking.

Despite the loss, Maret still got an impressive performance from Kennedy Austin, who dropped a double-double on 17 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 37% of Maret's points, marking the third time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points. London Liley was another key player, putting up 12 points.

Even though they lost, Maret smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with ten offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least ten offensive rebounds in 14 consecutive games.

It was another big night for Jayla Jackson, who went 13 for 20 on her way to 29 points and eight boards for Sidwell Friends. Jackson's evening made it five games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Ava Yoon, who went 5 of 10 en route to 16 points.

Maret's loss ended a four-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 10-4. As for Sidwell Friends, they pushed their record up to 11-1 with the victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

Maret will face off against Potomac School at 5:45 p.m. on Thursday. Potomac School will roll in looking for their sixth straight win, something Maret surely won't give up without a fight. As for Sidwell Friends, they will challenge Archbishop Mitty at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. Sidwell Friends knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past three matches -- so hopefully Archbishop Mitty likes a good challenge.
