Baseball Recap: San Luis Has No Trouble Against Mesa

San Luis barely beat Mesa the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Sidewinders put the hurt on the Jackrabbits with a sharp 14-1 victory on Tuesday. The match marked the Sidewinders' most dominant win of the season.

Juan Pablo Chavez made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 1-for-3 with three RBI.

In other batting news, Carlos Gonzales was excellent, scoring two runs while going 3-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Cesar Chavira was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two RBI.

San Luis always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .576. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mesa only posted an OBP of .167.

San Luis is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-12 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for Mesa, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost nine of their last 11 games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-17 record this season.

San Luis will be playing in front of their home fans against Gila Ridge at 3:45 p.m. on Monday. As for Mesa, they will take on Skyline at 3:45 p.m. on Thursday. The Jackrabbits are facing the Coyotes at the right time seeing as the Coyotes are stuck on a four-game losing streak.
