Baseball Recap: Elbert Comes Up Short

Elbert managed to slip by Kiowa the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Bulldogs lost 20-13 to the Indians on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat the Bulldogs have suffered against the Indians since April 25, 2017.

Grant Smith was cooking despite his team's loss, scoring three runs and stealing four bases while going 2-for-5. He has become a key player for Elbert: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 0-5 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Cornell, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base.

Elbert has traveled a rocky road recently, having lost four of their last five games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-6 record this season. As for Kiowa, their win bumped their record up to 5-6.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Elbert will face off against rival Cripple Creek-Victor at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Kiowa is set to take on their familiar foe Simla at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
