Softball Recap: Escalon Cougars vs. Summerville Bears

Escalon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They were a single run away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-9 heartbreaker at the hands of the Summerville Bears. The Cougars were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Bears apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in March of 2024.

Jayci Trimble stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: she scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. She also launched a home run, marking her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ariana Velasco, who scored a run and stole Three bases. while going 2-for-4.

Even though they lost, Escalon lost a few balls and finished the game with two home runs. That's the most home runs they've posted since back in March of 2024.

Escalon's record is now 3-6. As for Summerville, their victory ended a nine-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 4-3.

Looking ahead, Escalon will square off against Hughson at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hughson is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.7 runs per game this season. Summerville will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against Calaveras at 4:00 p.m. on March 21st.
