Basketball Game Preview: Southwind Jaguars vs. Houston Mustangs

Southwind and Houston are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2020, but not for long. The Southwind Jaguars will challenge the Houston Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. on Saturday. Southwind will be strutting in after a win while Houston will be coming in after a defeat.

Southwind took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They snuck past Cordova with a 47-43 victory. Given the Jaguars' advantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 22nd, while the Wolves are ranked 131st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Southwind can attribute much of their success to Kristopher Carrol, who went 7-for-10 en route to 18 points and seven rebounds, and Ronald Towns, who went 7-for-9 to rack up 16 points. What's more, Towns also posted a 78% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's achieved since back in November of 2024.

Meanwhile, Houston was within striking distance but couldn't close the gap last Friday as they fell 57-53 to Southwind.

Southwind pushed their record up to 18-8 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 57.2 points over those games. As for Houston, their loss ended a five-game streak of away wins and brought them to 22-7.

Southwind didn't have too much breathing room in their match against Houston in their previous matchup last Friday, but they still walked away with a 57-53 victory. The rematch might be a little tougher for Southwind since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
