Baseball Recap: Loyola College Prep Extends Home Winning Streak to Five

Loyola College Prep's game last Thursday was a loss, but they didn't let that memory haunt them on Friday. They walked away with a 9-4 win over the Byrd Yellow Jackets. For the Flyers, this counts as revenge for the 10-0 victory the Yellow Jackets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in March of 2024.

Grayson Minnis was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Minnis was even better at the plate, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.

In other batting news, Evan Lirette was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in April of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Cole Pryor, who scored a run while going 2-for-4.

Loyola College Prep was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .393. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Loyola College Prep's win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-1-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.6 runs over those games. As for Byrd, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 0-2-1.

Looking ahead, Loyola College Prep will face off against Byrd at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday. As for Byrd, they will challenge Buckeye at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday.
