Basketball Recap: St. Johns Country Day Comes Up Short

If St. Johns Country Day was riding high fresh off their 77-37 takedown of Middleburg on Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. The Spartans fell 50-38 to the Centennial Eagles on Monday.

When it comes to explaining why St. Johns Country Day lost, don't look at Kendall Proffitt. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double with 26 points and nine boards. That was a full 68.4% of the Spartans' points, marking the fourth time in a row Proffitt has posted more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Madi Dorsey, who put up ten points and seven rebounds.

Jailyn Williams was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double with 19 points and ten boards for Centennial. Williams is also crushing it when it comes to steals: she's grabbed at least three every time she's taken the court this season. Jada Parson was another key player, going 6-for-12 on her way to 12 points along with eight rebounds and four steals.

St. Johns Country Day's loss dropped their record down to 2-2. As for Centennial, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 3-1.

St. Johns Country Day didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next matchup, a 64-54 defeat against Whitefield Academy on the 25th. As for Centennial, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 54-45 victory against Oakleaf on the 25th.
