Recap: Casa Grande Cougars vs. Mountain Pointe Pride

The Casa Grande Cougars came into Thursday's contest having lost four straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They managed a 47-42 win over Mountain Pointe on Thursday. The victory was just what Casa Grande needed coming off of a 59-26 loss in their prior game.

Casa Grande's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tyra Vaughn, who dropped a double-double on ten points and 15 rebounds. Kaydence Apkaw was another key contributor, scoring ten points along with eight rebounds and six steals.

Despite the defeat, Mountain Pointe saw an underclassman step up: Nia Rowe scored 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexis Emerson-Berryhill, who scored ten points along with six steals.

Casa Grande's victory ended a six-game drought on the road and puts them at 7-16. As for Mountain Pointe, their loss was their fourth straight at home, which dropped their record down to 2-23.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Casa Grande will take on Higley at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Higley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 20 on Thursday. As for Mountain Pointe, they will stay at home for another game and welcome Williams Field at 7:00 p.m. on February 2nd.
