Basketball Recap: Taft Has No Trouble Against College Prep of America

Taft saw some tournament action on Monday. They wrapped up 2024 with a 59-41 win over the College Prep of America Thunder.

When it comes to explaining why College Prep of America lost, don't look at Hamzah Shouman. Despite the final result, he went 10 for 18 on his way to 30 points and six rebounds. That was a full 73.2% of College Prep of America's points, marking the seventh time in a row he's posted more than a third of the team's points. Abu Bakr Hasan was another key player, putting up eight points and six rebounds.

Taft's victory bumped their record up to 3-11. As for College Prep of America, they have been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Taft will square off against Simeon at 5:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Simeon knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with 55 points or more in their past five matches -- so hopefully Taft likes a good challenge. As for College Prep of America, they will challenge Chesterton Academy of the Holy Family at 7:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. College Prep of America is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.2 points per game this season.
