Soccer Game Preview: Portales vs. Artesia

Portales is 0-10 against Artesia since August of 2021 but things could change on Thursday. The Rams will be playing at home against the Bulldogs at 3:00 p.m. Portales has given up an average of 3.1 goals per game this season, but Thursday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Portales managed to keep up with Goddard until halftime on Thursday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Rams lost 7-1 to the Rockets.

Meanwhile, Artesia waltzed into their contest on Thursday with seven straight wins... but they left with eight. Their defense stepped up to hand the Wildcats a 7-0 shutout. Artesia found success even though the refs didn't miss a thing: Mayra Garcia and Alani Escareno were both handed yellow cards.

Artesia used a slightly different lineup for their bout with Lovington. Ayerim Alvidrez played for 70 minutes having averaged 35.8 this season and Kacy Neel got 70 vs. an average of 24.2. Neel made the most of the opportunity, scoring a goal and two assists A few more games like that and she might be seeing even more time going forward.

Artesia's victory bumped their record up to 16-3. As for Portales, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-12.
